I’ll be moving into my college dorm in ten days (!!!) and I’ve been on Pinterest like crazy, looking for ideas and lists on what to take for college. Luckily, I’ll only live about thirty minutes away from home in case I forget anything, but I’m aiming to bring as many things (that I need) as I can on the first try.
Below, I’ve rounded up the five essentials that I’ve collected from several different blogs on what’s necessary for college!
1- I’ve had this L.L. Bean backpack since freshman year and it has no signs that it’s five years old! Even though it looks gigantic, I’m always the kid that ends up carrying around an extra book or thirty pens, so it works for me. I got it in a turquoise color similar to the fresh mint one they now offer, and last year I got it monogrammed locally to set me apart from the crowd just a little bit more. It’s incredibly durable and cute too!
2- A small umbrella seems to be popping up on several lists, and with the unpredictable Kansas weather, I’m definitely taking one. My umbrella is a polka dot one by totes from Target, but I’m loving this one too! (Hint: look for one with the word ‘compact’ in it that’ll easily fold up and fit in your backpack.)
3- A water bottle that won’t leak or break is a necessity for campus. I recently got a Hydroflask in Everest Blue from my cousin for my birthday and I’ll never go back. I was skeptical about the claims, but after taking this to work in 90 degree heat and six hours, I still had ice cold water from that morning. The insulation keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours and keeps drink hot for up to six hours. Even better, it doesn’t sweat and it has a lifetime warranty, so the price is worth it.
4- Cute and comfortable shoes like these Keds are perfect for year round. Personally, I’m a fan of the lace-up style, and these perforated ones would definitely do the trick! I own three pairs of Keds and can walk in them all day, easily.
5- This one I’d wouldn’t necessarily consider an essential, but for someone interested in warding off the freshman fifteen, this is perfect. The Fitbit Flex is subtle, trendy, and comes in a wide array of wristband colors for the fashion-savvy. It hooks up to your phone via Bluetooth, and since it’s wearable, all you have to do is put it on and forget about it. I got my Fitbit this spring and it’s definitely motivated me to keep moving when I only have a few steps left to reach my daily goal!
