july moodboard

Sharing my July moodboard real quick! I’ve been super into Pinterest lately and was inspired by @franacciardo to pull together moodboard of photos I’ve been loving. Will I be wearing any of these outfits anytime soon? Definitely not – thanks quarantine – but a girl can dream. Summer is my favorite time of year and my birthday being at the end of July certainly helps! Here’s to 23!

may 2020 | life update vol. 10

NOTE: this is a republished post because I had some link issues with the other one – bear with me!

As I write this, it’s the second month of my quarantine. I visited my cousin in Paris in March over my work spring break, had the best time, then returned to America just in time. If I had come back a day later, I’m sure I would have been in those photos with all the crazy lines at the major airports!

I quarantined for two weeks at my apartment, then flew home to Kansas. I only packed three week’s worth of clothing, thinking that would be enough…little did I know!

Loving Lately

Watching

Outer Banks: I’ve literally watched this three times already, if that doesn’t tell you enough about how I feel about it. I love the show, the plot really kicks off around the fifth episode and you won’t believe the ending. I could go on and on about OBX so if you’ve seen it, please DM me and we can chat!! It’s about a group of four best friends that go on a treasure hunt after the main character’s father disappears.

Outer Banks

Little Fires Everywhere: This show is on Hulu and it’s based on the bestseller by Celeste Ng. Set in the 90s in Shaker Heights, Ohio, it follows the ‘ideal suburban family’ of the Richardsons and a mom and her daughter, new to the town. This is another one where I had no idea where it was going to end! I had wanted to read this book for a while, but I’ve been 20th in line on the library holds list for forever so I just decided to watch the show first. It makes me want to read the book now to see how they would lay out the plotline!

Little Fires Everywhere

Dead To Me: Season one of Dead to Me came out last spring and the second season came out at the beginning of May. I had already seen the first, but I started from the beginning to watch it with my mom. It’s about a woman whose husband dies in a hit-and-run, and her friendship with another woman she meets in a grief support group. I have to admit that I was disappointed by the cliffhanger in the first season, and it didn’t truly resolve itself in the second season – which also ended with another cliffhanger. It’s not my favorite of the bunch, but it’s an easy watch and has a lot of humor mixed in.

Dead to Me

Reading

The Selection series by Kiera Cass: After seeing this series all over my Tiktok, I decided to try it as one of my first quarantine reads. I was surprised by how much I loved it! It’s a classic YA novel, kind of like the Bachelor meets the Hunger Games (marriage competition meets caste system). They were a little too drawn out and I wish the third had resolved sooner, but still, a fun read. I wouldn’t recommend reading the fourth and fifth books though.

from @books_and_everything on instagram

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: This book follows the son of America’s first female president and his rivalry with the Prince of Wales – which then turns into something more. This book was really fun and clearly I was on a royal kick. It’s considered ‘new adult fiction,’ a fairly new genre that follows late high schoolers to recent post-grads. It was published in May of 2019 too, so it’s fairly up to date on pop culture references. I liked it!

from @thebookadvocate on instagram

The Gifted School by Bruce Holsinger: I’ve seen this recommended all over blogs and Instagram over the past year. It follows a group of friends and their kids trying to get into a new prestigious school, exclusively for gifted children. It’s a slow burn, but the ending had a big twist that I certainly wasn’t expecting. The beginning was a little tricky to follow with so many characters, but stick with it! It’s worth it. If you liked Big Little Lies, you’ll like this too.

Four little things

  1. I’ve been on a consistent workout schedule lately and I think a BIG part of that is not having to sit at a desk all day. Even if I’m not doing a dedicated workout, I’ve still been walking the dogs with my dad at least every day. I want to keep this up and when I get back to work, I definitely want to take advantage of my lunch breaks more!
  2. I’ve been able to see two of my hometown friends more than ever (from a safe distance, of course), and it’s been so special. We’ve all been friends since middle school at least, and it’s nice to get out of the house and hang out.
  3. I swear by these Outdoor Voices shorts for running or general workouts. I just bought my third pair and it’s SO worth the price. I’ve had one pair for over a year and they’ve held up really well. (PS – use my link here for 20% off your purchase! OV rarely has sales so take advantage of this)
  4. If you’re into Outer Banks or just stickers in general, I’ve updated my Redbubble shop recently!

Hope you’re staying safe and healthy!

february 2020: life update vol. 9

Hello! I moved into my new apartment about a week ago. I’m excited to be living with a roommate and in a two-bedroom, but it’s a weird adjustment being in a new place! I’m in the same complex but on a different floor. I have to admit, I might have gone to my old apartment a couple of times on accident after moving! The living room space is a little smaller so I’m still figuring out how to move my old decor into the new place, but I’ll have an apartment tour up soon.

One of the very first things I did when moving in was bake chocolate chip cookies. I had some friends from work help me move my couch and a few other things and that was their payment – but I’ve realized that baking my mom’s recipe always helps make a new place feel like home.

Loving Lately

Watching

Modern Love: I watched Modern Love on Amazon Prime while I was moving/unpacking and finished it all in two days! It’s based on some of the stories from the long-running Modern Love column in the New York Times. I’m lucky enough to have a Times subscription from my college still (if you’re seeing this KU, please don’t take it away) and I love reading the little love stories in the weekly newsletter. All the stories were so sweet but the one with the doorman was my favorite. It was such a great piece of storytelling.

Good Girls: I started this series on NBC after my mom recommended it. The first two seasons are on Netflix and the third just came back on and I was SHOCKED by what happened!! I can’t recommend this show enough, it constantly keeps me guessing. Here’s the plot: two sisters and their best friend rob a grocery store, just for some quick money to stay afloat with their own personal financial situations. They get pulled way more into crime than they ever imagined it would go. I can’t say much else without giving it away!

Five little things

  1. I’ve been obsessed with this citrus cucumber candle from Target
  2. I baked a red velvet cake for Valentine’s day and brought it to work just for fun – there is no better feeling than getting compliments on something you’re proud of + sharing baked goods!
  3. This Covergirl lipstick is the perfect nude for me – a little bit darker than my lips and with a great finish
  4. Elena Taber’s Youtube channel. I’ve followed her for a few years now and I am constantly impressed by her content. She’s one of few channels that I can go back and rewatch her old videos and still be entertained
  5. Big plants! I’m going to Home Depot this week to hopefully purchase a silver bay plant (maybe a different one if I see another that I like). Home Depot has a great plant selection for awesome prices – so underrated!

H&M try-on haul

I did a little try-on haul on my Instagram stories the other day (go follow me if you haven’t already) and got a lot of great feedback, so I decided to re-share that content here! H&M has a ton of great basics in lots of color options, I’d recommend if you’re trying to change up your wardrobe for less

Checked pink and black blazer

Red floral chiffon dress (comes in three other colors, the black would be super easy to dress up)

Red boat-neck striped sweater (comes in three other striped variations)

Fine-knit turtleneck – not super flattering on me but the color didn’t help

Fine-knit sweater in beige

Black short-sleeve sweater

Top with dolman sleeves

2-pack hair scarves – H&M has a TON of cute hair accessories and different-patterned scarves too

I also shared two videos of scarves but couldn’t embed them here. The first one is a neutral, super-wide scarf that would be great for travel and the second is a pink and black plaid flannel scarf that totally reminds me of Burberry!

Happy February!

january 2020: life update vol. 8

I’m going to be honest here. January started off in the worst way possible. We had to put down Rosie, my 14-year-old dog. It was the humane thing to do, as you could tell she wasn’t really herself, but it was still really hard. It took me at least three weeks to stop crying every single day when I would think about something that reminded me of her.

If you’re not a dog person you probably won’t understand. That’s ok.

But Rosie was one of my best friends and such a key part of our family for 14 years and it’s so hard being without her. I miss her all the time. I’m glad my family still has Riley though – having her around makes it a little easier.

Life update:

I’m ending January home again in Kansas City for a friend’s wedding (which conveniently falls on Superbowl weekend), and I’m glad I’m able to spend some more time with my family before I go back to Salt Lake City for a longer stretch of time.

I went skiing for the first time ever on January 12th with Misty, one of my friends here (and soon-to-be roommate). We took a lesson at Solitude and unfortunately, I was definitely the worst of the group. I expected that though! I went again on MLK Day (the 20th) and I’m looking forward to getting back out there a few more times before ski season ends. I enjoy it, but I’m still getting the hang of learning how to turn and managing my speed. I’m very open to any and all tips you have!

I will fully admit that I (poorly) photoshopped our instructor out of this picture – oh well

Loving Lately

Watching:

I saw Little Women when I was in Kansas City, with my friends Jordan and Abigail. I seriously cannot say enough good things about the movie! I read it back in high school at one point and now I’m on the list at my library to re-read it again. The visuals, the storyline, the costuming, the casting, EVERYTHING was perfect. It’s the sort of movie that deserves to be seen on the big screen, so go see it in the theaters while you still can.

I also watched the movie The Farewell on my flight back to Salt Lake City from home. It was so sweet and I expected to cry at the end but was pleasantly surprised with the ending.

Reading:

In January I read three books: Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult, The Royal We by Heather Cocks and The Prized Girl by Amy Green.

Small Great Things was my favorite, about an African American delivery nurse that hesitates when helping a child of white supremacists. A trial ensues. It was interesting to read it from the perspective of the nurse, the lawyers, the white supremacist father and others.

The Prized Girl was your classic thriller about a former pageant girl that gets murdered. Typically I can figure out who the killer is about partway through the book, but in this one, I literally couldn’t figure it out until the very last pages when it was revealed. I was shocked! That made up for any shortcomings that the book may have had throughout.

The Royal We is your typical fanfiction-style book. It’s literally the story of Prince William and Kate Middleton, from college to marriage, just with fictional characters. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it, but if you’re not a fan of the Royal family then you probably won’t like it.

Hope you enjoyed!

college graduation & traveling | life update vol. 6

Hi there! The last month or so has been crazy busy. I graduated from college, moved out of my college home and I’m now preparing to go on a 24-day trip through Europe. This post will mainly be a photo update as I truly don’t have the time to write a sentimental goodbye to Lawrence yet…but I wanted to make a quick post before I go abroad.

Leaving KU

I made this video summing up my college career and my time as a Jayhawk. Below is the text I was going to have as a voiceover, but it didn’t flow with the music so I just wrote it out on its own but still wanted to share. KU is so very special to me and I’m sad to be leaving, but I know I’ll always have Lawrence to welcome me home.

——-

I’ve always known I was going to KU. My childhood was spent learning how to say Rock Chalk and go Jayhawks, and my Saturdays in fall were spent at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence – followed by Pyramid Pizza or a donut from Joe’s. I mostly read a book or played games instead of watching the football games, but I still soaked up every single tradition and very quickly became a passionate KU fan. I remember watching the 2008 national championship game in Allen Fieldhouse, then storming Mass Street after with my family at only ten years old. Waving the wheat, singing the alma mater, doing the rock chalk chant – these were all traditions I loved and knew from a young age. From my first official tour in junior year of high school, I knew immediately that the journalism school felt like home. I started school and dove in to getting involved, joining a sorority and meeting some of my best friends along the way.

I chose to major in strategic communications and loved it, but I found my real home working in athletics. My life came full circle when I started working for the football team in my second semester of sophomore year. Countless photos and graphics later, I’m so proud of the work I’ve done. When I came to the University of Kansas as a freshman, unsure of myself and a little scared, I didn’t know how much I would grow. KU has taught me how to be independent, how to fail and bounce back, and how to be confident in myself. I know I’m going to miss Lawrence so much, but I know I will always return home grateful for what I’ve learned. Thank you, KU – Rock Chalk.

College graduation

I graduated from KU with my major in strategic communications in the journalism school and a minor in sport management. Here are some of my favorite photos from that day!

Europe trip

I’m going on a trip with EF Ultimate Break this June! I never got the chance to study abroad so this is my college graduation trip and I’m so excited because Mexico is the furthest I’ve ever been out of the country. I’m visiting London, Amsterdam, Paris, the Swiss Alps, Venice, Florence, Rome, Barcelona and a few other stops along the way. I’ll be sharing photos on my Instagram throughout the trip, then I’m planning on having recaps of each city on my blog and making videos once I return. If you have any packing tips PLEASE share – I’m only bringing a carryon and a backpack and I’m struggling a little!

life update vol. 5

Hello and happy March! I wish I could say happy spring, but it truly doesn’t feel like spring in Kansas City. I think the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes summed it up the best…I am sick of the snow!

Also, just had to share this part of an email from my granddad after my running post last week. My granddad used to run all the time (multiple marathons, including Boston!) and his fueling advice made me laugh. Totally sound, but I don’t think you would catch a lot of runners drinking soda on the course these days!

Interesting read on your half-marathon training and hydration. For what it’s worth, I always took a 20 oz. bottle in a holder I strapped around my waist with me. I filled it with half Pepsi and half water. The caffeine and sugar in the Pepsi seemed to help my energy level. If you prefer Gatorade, you might try mixing it half and half, or even weaker, since you had some problems with it full strength.

I made this illustration last week of one of our football players. I’ve never done anything like this before but it was really fun trying out a new technique. I want to work on more digital (and paper!) illustrations in the future.

I was pretty sick last week – just a normal head cold, but still the worst. My mom suggested I take this elderberry syrup (also comes in gummies!). It’s a natural remedy and I took the ‘intensive routine,’ 4 doses of 10ml per day, while I was sick. I think it definitely shortened the amount of time I was sick for. I’m continuing to take the gummies once a day while it’s still cold season and I really think it’s helping.

I love Topo Chico with a twist of lime but cannot find it ANYWHERE in Kansas City or Lawrence except for Chipotle. Anyone have advice???

Loving Lately

Watching:

The Bachelor

Obviously!! I just finished the iconic ‘fence jumping’ episode with my roommates. The Bachelor at its core is honestly terrible, but it’s so entertaining to watch with friends.

Isn’t It Romantic

I watched this movie last week with a few of my roommates. I haven’t laughed so much at a movie in a long while. Rebel Wilson is hilarious and I loved hearing Liam Hemsworth in his real accent. Highly recommend.

Eating:

Cara cara oranges

More people should know about these!! They were on sale at Aldi last week and I snagged a bag of 7 for 2.50. They’re sweeter, a little like a blood orange, and the best snack. I have a huge sweet tooth and always feel like I have to have something sweet after a meal for dessert and this makes a good, healthier substitute for dessert. (Although I still end up eating dessert afterward, don’t be fooled!)

Cinnamon roll pull-apart bread

This was a total kitchen experiment for me. I took pre-made biscuit dough and laid each biscuit out with the edges slightly overlapping, then flattened them as much as I could. I then made the cinnamon mixture (1 tbsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 4 tbsp melted butter) and spooned it out over the top.

You’ll end up with lots of extra liquid after spooning it out and spreading it across the biscuits – save it for later. Then roll them all together into one big roll, then cut it into slices like you would with a normal cinnamon roll. After laying them out in the pan, pour the extra liquid on top. Bake according to the biscuit instructions on the package. These were so good and definitely a treat.

I found this recipe that seems similar and made it yesterday. It’s more like monkey bread, but takes a little more time than the above recipe. I used brown sugar instead of white sugar for a richer flavor and I think that made it much better.

Wanting:

More Outdoor Voices pieces! If you haven’t seen it already, check out my blog post from last week about the pieces that I own. I’m very curious about the OV Hoka Cliftons, because my main workout is running. I can’t justify that purchase right now though while I have perfectly good running shoes, so this might be my next pair after I wear my current pair out. However, I’ve read that they’re heavier and I love how lightweight my current running shoes are, so I’m not sure. If you’ve tried the Hoka Cliftons let me know!

life update vol. 4

Hello – it’s been a while! I’m coming off of a very long work week with my internship with the football team. I love every second of working there and signing day last Wednesday was super fun to be involved with. I’m ready for spring practice to start to get some more action in my photos and videos.

I love sharing product/media recommendations with my friends and these kinds of posts are my favorite to read, so I want to share more of them around here. Let me know if you like it!

What I wore for signing day (yikes I need to clean my mirror)

sweater blazer // pants // top (only $10!) // shoes

Taking advantage of the good lighting

sweater (only $20, red not available) // necklace (custom with the Color Bar in the Maddie style)

Loving Lately

Watching:

Good Girls
The series follows three suburban mothers, two of whom are sisters, who are having a hard time trying to make ends meet. They are tired of having everything taken away from them so they decide to pull off an unlikely heist by robbing a supermarket, only to discover that they’re in for more than they bargained. Their successful robbery attracts the attention of the store manager after he recognizes one of the women, but for a different reason altogether than just the money. (summary from Wikipedia)

My mom recommended this to me last year and I was watching too many shows at the time, so I didn’t ever watch when it was on air. I started it around 1pm on Sunday and by 5pm I was halfway through the season! This is a pretty lighthearted show and it’s funnier than I expected. The second season comes back on March 3rd and I’m excited to continue to watch.

Grown-ish
This is a spin-off of Black-ish, following the oldest child, Zoey, as she goes to college and experiences life on her own. This show is definitely relatable at points and I love how honest and open they are about the different parts of college. I find myself relating a lot of their situations back to my own experiences through college.

Good Trouble
Another spin-off here! I loved watching The Fosters and would happily binge-watch it over and over again. This series follows Callie and Mariana post-grad living in LA. Callie works as a clerk for a judge and Mariana works at a tech start-up. I loved watching the two of them and following their stories through The Fosters, so I love keeping up with their characters. They also bring back other members of the family to guest star in different episodes, which is a fun element.

Listening:

I never thought I would be a podcast kind of girl but I’ve recently become so into Brooke Miccio and Danielle Carolan’s podcast, Gals on the Go. I listen to it while I’m running and I think it’s a great intro to podcasts because I already watch their videos so I’m used to their voices, and it’s fun to hear them talk about recent topics and also just chat about their lives. I also like Katy Bellotte’s podcast, Thick and Thin. It’s fun to hear people in the same stage of life as you are and just hear about how they’re handling their lives.

I’m obsessed with Maggie Rogers lately and her new album, Heard It In A Past LifeMaggie’s voice is so unique and different from anything I hear on the radio lately. If you like Florence and the Machine, you’ll definitely appreciate Maggie’s sound. Overnight and Back in My Body are two of my favorite songs off the album.

Eating:

Hershey’s Lava Cake Kisses
These Hershey Kisses are my favorite kind of all time. They’re dark chocolate with a melted center. Last year they were branded as Truffle Kisses and only around until Valentine’s Day, so if you’re wanting to try, get them quick! I may or may not have stocked up on a few bags or more.

Oreo Cheesecake Dip
The name alone should be enticing enough. I’ve made this recipe for two game nights with friends so far and it was a huge hit. They pair really well with Nilla wafers and I imagine it’d be really good with strawberries as well. Just make sure you’re whipping together everything really well so that the cream cheese is evenly mixed throughout. I put way more Oreos in than normal as well.

Wanting:

More Outdoor Voices pieces! I’m writing a review soon on the pieces I already have, so be on the lookout for that. I’m very curious about the OV Hoka Cliftons, because my main workout is running. I can’t justify that purchase right now though while I have perfectly good running shoes, so this might be my next pair after I wear my current pair out.

senior year update

Hello from 2019!

Senior Year Update | Hannah With a Camera

School

Last semester (fall 2018) was a breeze compared to my previous two years. I switched out of the graphic design major, kept my journalism major and added the sport management minor. While my new classes aren’t very challenging, I’m enjoying the shift in studies. I especially enjoyed my Sport Communication class last semester as we explored social media in sport. I even taught myself app design for an assignment, which has inspired me to try to design my portfolio website!

This semester is my last semester ever of college, which is crazy to type. As I tell more people about my senior status, and get the inevitable ‘so what are you doing after graduation?’ question, I’ve been thinking about my college career more than ever. I’m looking for a creative job in the collegiate space, much like my internships that I have now, so keep your fingers crossed for me, please! I’m only taking 9 credit hours – 3 classes – this semester, and I’m definitely going to take advantage of enjoying senior year.

Social life

Living on a different side of campus has also increased my social life significantly. I’ve also been aiming to say ‘yes’ a lot more to doing things in general, and I haven’t regretted it since. I’m living in a ‘senior house’ with five other girls in my sorority this year. I absolutely love it and all the little things about it, like having my own room (!!), having a kitchen to use whenever I want and just having more space in general. That said, it’s certainly been an adjustment period with handling the bills between my roommates, trying (and often failing) to keep a consistent cleaning schedule and buying my own groceries. (Although I was able to eat at my internship with KU football a lot this fall so I can’t say that I cooked much!) Decorating my space has been my favorite part – be on the lookout for a house tour coming soon.

Internships

This March will mark two years of my internship with the KU football team and I have loved every minute of it. I even got to travel for my 1st away game to the University of Oklahoma..and somehow got involved in the game action.

I’ve learned so much and I’m constantly teaching myself new skills to use in our designs. Along with football, I also started my social media internship with KU Athletics this fall. Instead of just working with the football team, I’m working with all sports and getting the opportunity to photograph a range of action. It’s certainly been a challenge and adjustment going from sport-to-sport – who knew there was such a big difference going from horizontal movement in soccer and football to vertical movement in basketball? I’ve learned to embrace the challenge though and my photo skills have definitely grown from it.

Travel

I’m so excited to share that I have a big trip planned in June, but I don’t want to reveal where I’m going just yet. This will be my first time to this continent (a small feat considering the Riviera Maya in Mexico was my furthest trip outside of the U.S.) and I’ve been eagerly researching all the little details of my trip since I booked it this fall.

Fitness

Since I ran my second half marathon this November, my fitness efforts have been very lackluster. I came home for winter break and took full advantage of the holiday season and I’m 100% okay with that. Despite this, I still like the feeling of accomplishment I get after working out, especially with running, so I’m slowly making my way back into a consistent fitness routine. I don’t have a gym at home over the break, so I’ve been doing home workouts just using resistance bands and running on my own. I’m hoping to establish my workout routine again by February, so I have a bit of adjustment to figure out how it fits into my class and work schedules. I’m alternating between runs, the Nike Training Club app and the John Benton Model Fitness program (new to me). I’ll do a post on my routine once I actually get it settled.

2018 recap

Below is a video from some of my adventures in the fall semester – I loved (almost) every second of it and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next semester.

back to school | life update vol. 3

(note – the below text about college was written on the first day of school, so bear that in mind while reading! enjoy!)

Back to School | Life Update Vol. 3

College life

(written 8/20) Today was my first day of senior year, which is so bittersweet. I have always known what I was going to do next, after high school I went to college, then in college I just kept continuing my education. Now that I’m my last year, I have no clue what will happen to me after I graduate. For now, I’ll just wait and enjoy my last year in school, but it’s very weird not knowing!

My girl Ally over at XOXO Allison Nicole put out a post recently that totally summed up this feeling for me, so I’ll just let you read it for yourself 🙂

As a senior, I’m now living in a house with five other girls and I’m having so much fun already. It’s a huge change from living in the sorority house but I love it! A big difference is being able to have my own room and a kitchen. It’s also nice to be able to call a place ‘my house’ instead of just ‘the sorority house.’ It’s still your home, but it’s a little different when shared with 90 girls.

Now that I have my own room and it’s repainted a pretty blue color (that looks almost identical to my room at home), I need to decorate! Currently I have a navy futon, patterned navy bedding, and a pink dresser. I just bought this nightstand in white and need to find a fun lamp to pull it all together.

check out those cute tissues to ‘accessorize’ on the nightstand haha

Once I have those last pieces, I’m wanting to put together a gallery wall. I have some random wall decor, but I’m still trying to figure out how I want to arrange it. I have this painting that my grandma did before she passed away and I love it and want to make it the feature item.

Entertainment

I know you’ve probably seen this all over Twitter, but I watched To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix with my roommates recently (twice) and I loved it! It was so cute and had everything I love in a perfect rom-com. Especially Noah Centineo – I’ve loved him since watching The Fosters and he was great in this too. I read the book a long time ago, but I want to re-read it and the rest of the series. I hope they make the rest of the books into movies too!

I also finished reading Everybody Always by Bob Goff and loved that too. He always has great little stories that make the Bible verse/story so much more relatable. (How many times can I say the word love in this blog post…)

Style

I made my first purchase from Mango recently. I always see Fran writing about it on her blog and usually browse through their site, but I came upon a decent sale and bought my first pieces from there. I got this textured dress in blue, in hopes of wearing it to my semi-formal this year. I also took a total style jump and bought a bright red leather jacket (SO out of my comfort zone). (This one is similar, but unfortunately not at the same price :/). I have no clue how I’m going to style it, but I thought it was super fun and different. I also love this checked dress, just not the length, and this fun wrap dress.

I’m also looking for more basic tops I can throw on with jeans to go out. (Everything I own has stripes and my roommates have deemed that ‘not going-out style’ 🙄.) I thought I had some, but after going through my closet this past weekend I realized most of my closet has more work-appropriate clothes. There’s nothing wrong with that but I want to switch it up a bit! I’ve been browsing through Forever21’s website and eyeing pieces like this simple navy tank and polka dot cami.

I’ve also been eyeing this textured mini wrap skirt from J.Crew for so long, but I can’t justify spending the money on it. Luckily I found a very similar one on Abercrombie and Fitch’s site for half the price! I might have to snag it.

Hope you enjoyed reading today’s post!

almost finished | life update vol. 2

It’s been a hot minute.

I have been stressed, to put it in the slightest. This semester is kicking my butt and I’m glad it’s almost finished.

In spite of that though, I’m trying to find the positives: lovely roommates who feel bad for me when I come in the room at 3am (I even broke my record last night and hit 4:30…not a record I ever wanted to break) instead of being annoyed for waking them up (or at least they’re not telling me 😉 ), an amazing job that fuels me more creatively than my schoolwork ever does and a fantastic professor that keeps me motivated to pursue a career in sports.

Fashion

My favorite heels that I wore all last summer are on sale! I’d get them in your size now if you can. They’re the perfect classic cognac shade and the silhouette is timeless. Block heels are still trendy and I love the look.

I’m also loving the look of these platform espadrilles by Universal Thread at Target. The Universal Thread brand has the same look and style as Madewell, but at a way better price point. I haven’t had time to go and try things on but I love the casual feel of the brand.

Fitness

Ever since running my half marathon, I’ve had just about zero time to work out. I’ve found that running is the easiest form of working out because I can simply lace up my shoes and head out the door instead of dedicating time to the gym. I ran a 5K on Sunday a week after the race. It was on my campus and was another rainy and cold day, which I’ve found I don’t really mind running in! The course was fairly hilly though and the tendons on the top of my feet didn’t feel great afterward, so I’ve decided to take a little rest before hopping right back into running.

I need to be consistent and work my way up in mileage so I don’t overtrain and hurt myself. I really want to add more crosstraining into my routine. I loved the weight-lifting class I took last semester and how it made me feel, so I’d like to continue that. I also want to establish a routine now so I can keep up with it over the summer.

Summer plans

I’m excited to say that I finally know what I’m doing this summer! I’ll be working as a marketing intern at a sports architecture firm in downtown Kansas City, on the Plaza. I just found this out last weekend. Because I’ll be dressed nice, I think I’ll try to take daily outfit photos (if I remember).

I’ll also be working as a photo intern on gamedays with Sporting KC, my favorite soccer team. I’m very excited to get a look at how professional sports operate compared to collegiate athletics. Before school starts, I’ll go back to KU in Lawrence to work two weeks of fall camp as well.

Reflecting on this semester

Other than working, I’ll be spending a lot of time with my family before I move back to Lawrence for my senior year. I’m living in a house with five of my friends next year and I’m super excited to decorate my own space. I’m mainly excited to have my own room! I think this will be the most fun year yet because I get to live with my closest friends.

Freshman year I lived with three other girls in a large suite and that was a good way to transition to having roommates. Sophomore and junior year, I lived in a very small room with three other girls and I’m so glad I lived in both years.

If you have the opportunity to live in your sorority house, do it! It’s such a unique experience – when else will you live with 90 other girls at one time? My roommates and I are at the point where we’re getting somewhat sentimental about leaving that space and not seeing each other’s faces every night before going to bed.

If you made it this far, congrats! I love writing these kinds of posts and reading ones written by other people.

What’s going on in your life?

xo, Hannah
